June of 2007 the birds and the project were moved about 3km back to inside La Marina. The birds still come and go as they please, but most now Live at Wildlife Rescue Center la Marina Foundation.
What is it?
It is a project to reintroduce Macaws into this area.
How was it Started?
It was stared by a transplanted American who wanted to bring back the macaws into the area. Juan Jose and the man became very friendly talking about the birds. The man became ill and pasted away a few years ago. He left the property to Juan Jose and his family to continue the work. If you arrange ahead of time you may be able to be taken to this location. It is unlike anything else you may have seen. Beautiful birds coming and going enjoying life. There are nesting boxes for the Macaws to breed around the property. In the kitchen there is a cabinet with chunks of wood taken out of it. The birds who have their nesting box on the side of the house at one time nested in the kitchen . They would chew chunks of wood from that cabinet.

Where is it?
La Lupita is a property under a 10 minute drive from La Marina.
Where did the Birds originally come from?
Many of the birds here were involved in some trauma in their life. Some were confiscated by the government for several reasons. Some were given by people who could no longer take care of them. Others are now being born in the area. All Birds that are able to fly, come and go as they please. Most of them roost there early in the morning and late in the day. Some of the birds are their all day. Some of the birds for various reasons do not fly and can be seen more easliy. Even some of the non flying birds will climb up into a tree. You have to look closely to see them. Some of the birds have big mouths and give their location away.
What will I see?
.
It has over 50 Macaws. There are also several other parrots including Yellow Nape and Red Fronted Parrots. There are 2 or should I say 3 types of Macaws. Scarlett and Great Green Macaws. Also there are a few Hybrids
What is a Hybrid?
The Hybrid is cross between the Scarlet and Great Green macaw. The birds did this on their own. This normally does not happen in nature because the 2 species normally live in different parts of the country. The Scarlet macaws live on the Pacific side and the Great Green macaws live on the carribean side.

This parrot prefers to sit upside down on the clothes line and being feed peanuts. what a life

This is not the best picture but it shows some of the macaws flying overhead on a cloudy day.

These 4 parrots are just hanging around on a tree on the property. You will notice 3 macaws and one Great Green Macaw.

.
This bird was found because I could hear him singing in the tree
This Macaw is eating himself out of house and home. For some reason the birds like to eat and destroy their nesting box.
